It’s time to take steps towards taking care of ourselves. Are you like me? Are you guilty of taking care of everyone else and not putting yourself on the priority list? After many failed attempts to redirect some of my energy to myself, I think I’ve finally landed on the solution - baby steps.

Trying to shift my habits all at once proved to be too much for me. I was setting myself up for failure. The solution, has been baby steps - doing one little thing at a time that takes care of me. I’m really not talking about anything big.

START WITH BABY STEPS

I have been taking baby steps to start reclaiming myself. I have two kids who still need help with homework, a husband, a mom who needs my help, a house that needs to be picked up, a business that takes 90% of my brain power while I’m awake and asleep. I don’t really appear on the priority list (my choice, let’s get real. No one is saying I have to do everything for everyone else and ignore myself - that’s allll me, and it’s time I cut that out).

It’s time for change, so baby steps have been happening.

SIMPLE WAYS TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF

Here are some of the simple things I’ve been doing to take better care of myself:

  • I made an appointment to get a haircut and color

  • I took 6 minutes and meditated today (Is 6 minutes pathetic? Doesn’t matter - baby steps, remember?)

  • I’ve been taking periodic deep breaths just to recenter myself

  • Flossing and putting in the moisturizing eye drops I bought and never used

  • I spent one solid hour on one of my major life goals - outlining the book I want to write

  • Tonight, I will do my own nails (let’s not go crazy, I just don’t have 90 minutes this week for a professional manicure, but there’s no reason I can’t take care of my own nails while I watch a Reese Witherspoon movie on pay per view.)

  • Do I go crazy and take a bath?? I haven’t even taken a bath in our new house yet. Hmmmm.

What one thing (or two or three) are you going to do for yourself this week?
