5 Essential Realtor Brand Strategies

5 Essential Realtor Brand Strategies

Competition is intense in every field; you may be exceptional at what you do – but you need to make sure that people, especially your potential customers – know that. As a real estate agent, what are the strategies that you need to follow to build your brand?

1.Create your Buyer Persona

This is your Ideal Buyer; to create this, you need to understand your target audience well. Take a look at the kind of properties you deal in and the kind of homes that are in your area. The look at the people living in the area you plan to work in – their average ages, incomes, preferences, hobbies, etc. Based on this, create your buyer persona; you may sometimes need to create more than one persona, if the demographic makeup of your area is very diverse.

2.Check out the Competition

Take a long hard look at their strategies; see how they are branding, and learn from them, especially from the top realtors in your area. If you look at the top realtors in Los Angeles, you will see they each have a specific brand. They don’t just mimic the branding of their brokerage firm, they stand out with their own personality. Having photographed many of the top real estate brokers in the region, I work hard to carve out their particular brand with them.  Your brand should feel like you in business and attract your ideal buyer/seller.

3.Website

This may seem obvious, and most realtors do not have a distinctive website.  When you sign with a brokerage firm, such as Coldwell Banker, Keller Williams, or Century 21, you are given tools, such as a generic website, business card templates, and branding materials. But there are ways to make yourself stand out, even from competitive brokers within your own brokerage. Distinctive, branded photography is a great way to start. Sharing your story on your website is another. In this competitive market with such high purchase prices at stake, it is important that buyers/sellers connect with you and trust that you’re the perfect person to make their dream home dreams come true.

4.Tag Line

Great tag lines can certainly help to set a business apart from others – they are usually short, easy to remember, often indicate a key benefit, AND associate with the brand. For example – ‘Never Leave Home Without It’ from American Express, ‘Because You’re Worth it’ from L’Oréal, ‘The Best a Man Can Get’ from Gillette, and so on. A great tag line helps to make you memorable.  What’s my tag line? “I wish you could see yourself through my lens.”

5.Photography

Ensure your website and all printed material have your photos; get high quality pictures of yourself taken by top headshot photographers, and show off your best side to your target audience. An experienced photographer will know exactly how to present you – your clothes, angles, lighting, expression, location, and so on – so that you look like you’re not just serious about what you do, but that you also take pride in it; and that is vital to convey. Top realtors know that to communicate with their market, they need multiple pictures targeted at each segment of their audience. “It’s not just a headshot, it’s your business, your brand, and the future of your success.” - Stephanie Simpson

Real Estate Agents - how to stand out from the crowd

No doubt, the real estate business is pretty lucrative; but it’s also extremely competitive. To help you stand out from the sea of realtors, you need to have an effective plan in place. Here are some tips to help you:

Create an excellent website

Make sure that you have a website that is exclusively for you and your brand; even if you work in a corporate brokerage firm, it’s important to have a proper website that offers your audience an exceptional experience. Through your website, you can offer podcasts, blogs, videos and giveaways, apart from information on properties for sale, your services and so on.

Talk about Yourself

Buyers relate to people; they like to connect to the person and not the business; they want to hear your story. So it’s important that you let them know your story – and tell it well. Whether on your website or on printed material or your social media posts, you need to make sure that you have high quality photographs of yourself out there. Get a package of professional business headshots taken from an experienced photographer.. Remember, the photographs represent your business and brand; an iPhone picture in your backyard is not going to cut it.

Provide Value

The days of cold selling are almost through; today’s buyer is savvy and discerning, and demand quality and value. So rather than hard selling property, make sure you provide as much information as you can – about the real estate market, what buyers look for, what aspects add to or reduce the value of a house, advantages and disadvantages of localities and neighborhoods, and the like. You can offer this information through blogs, podcasts, downloadable e-books, social media posts, videos, and even printed pamphlets or brochures. Make sure you include several high quality photographs of the properties you have for sale. Request your previous clients to allow you to display their pictures along with the feedback they provide for your services. Make sure you get the best portrait photographers to take those pictures.

Present your Clients with Unique Gifts

It’s quite normal for real estate agents to give gifts to clients when a deal is closed; rather than give something that is run of the mill, put some thought into it; consider what the client really enjoys or likes, and choose accordingly. It doesn’t have to be expensive – just something memorable for each customer. Personalizing your gift will work wonders.

The 5 Types of Images that will Attract your Perfect Client

When the competition is tough, you need to bring your A game to the table; doing business online, while lucrative, has numerous challenges. Marketing yourself and your brand well and attracting your ideal customer is the biggest of all. Let’s see how you can achieve that with the right images:

  1. Your ‘About You’ Portrait: People want to know who they’re dealing with. The person behind the business. Uploading high quality professional business headshots on your website will help build confidence and trust in the minds of your target audience. Make sure you get a reputed and experienced photographer so that you’re presented in your best. Your customers will be reassured and feel more inclined to engage with your brand. It’s not just about photographic technique. Try to find a photographer who understands business and branding. Everything you do, from your pose, clothes, expression and connection can express your brand. Your photographer should understand those nuances and the scope of your business brand.

  2. Photos of your products/services: You need to let your customers know what it is that you sell. If they are physical products, include high quality images of all or as many products as you can. How will your customers come to you if they don’t know exactly what it is that you sell? If sell a service, include images of the service being provided. For example, a smiling executive explaining a financial product to a prospective investor, and so on – you get the idea. Let your potential customers know what your brand and business is all about.

  3. Behind the Scenes: Show your target audience a sneak peek behind the scenes. Let them see you in action. How many times have you searched for behind the scene videos of your favorite TV shows or movies? It’s human nature! It also allows your customers to imaging themselves working with you, which can help them decide to hire you. Professional business photography always works wonders to attract customers.

  4. Your Team: Most businesses have a set of employees working in various departments, or who perform different tasks. By showcasing your team – the force behind your business – you will be able to gain the trust of your customers. It will be easy for them to know who they can approach if they have a problem regarding the products or the customer service, and so on. Professional corporate headshots of your main team members are an absolute must, if you want to steal a march on your competition.

  5. Your Supporting Images: Your brand is not just shown in pictures of you or your location, it is in the supporting images you show in blog posts, your website, your marketing materials. I call these “flavor” images. They highlight the flavor of your company. Many people use stock photos, but you can create custom images that really reflect your business. It brings your image up to a higher level and showcases your brand more effectively. This can include images with your branding materials, logo, team members in the background, etc.

There’s No Such Thing As Photogenic

There’s No Such Thing As Photogenic

Are you among the many hundreds of people around the world who believe that some people are naturally great in front of a camera – that they are ‘photogenic’? It does seem, doesn’t it, that there are some people that the camera seems to love, especially when you look at professional portrait photography? Well, you couldn’t be further away from the facts.

Yes, it’s true that some people may have a flair for posing correctly and showing off their best features, and that photographing them may be easier. This could be out of practice, or instinct. However, it does not for a minute mean that only they can be photographed well.

There are basically two types of people who feel they don’t ‘photograph well’:

  1. Those who are shy by nature, and feel extremely uncomfortable and nervous when a stranger is brandishing a camera at them, and end up with awkward smiles or strange expressions.
  2. Those who are way too excited and animated and can’t seem to sit still; there are so many expressions appearing on the face that it’s difficult to capture a single good one!

Now the good news is that even these people can be made to look jaw-droppingly amazing in a photograph. Radiant smiles, best profiles, sultry pouts – you name it, it can be done. Yes, your seemingly plain Jane next door can be photographed like a Diva; because capturing your best features and portraying them is in the hands of the photographer. Not the subject, not the camera, but the photographer. True, it takes more effort to produce spectacular results with such individuals – but it is very much possible.

I agree; it’s not easy for everyone to pose in front of a stranger – or even a friend. But a truly great photographer empathizes with the person to be photographed. They succeed in putting the person absolutely at ease, AND in getting them to listen to what they say – about how to pose, and the facial expression, mostly.

A great photographer knows what beauty is – and will hold your hand and lead you to it. For your business and your career, killer portraits can make a difference in your income or whether or not you are hired for your next great job. Don’t let fear stand in your way from your success.

Getting portraits can do loads for your self-confidence; so what’s stopping you from getting to a professional photography studio now?

5 Fashion Rules for the Powerful Woman in You

5 Fashion Rules for the Powerful Woman in You

Whether it’s casual friday, that big presentation, or a Zoom video meeting from your home office, the way you dress and carry yourself sends a message. Taking good care of yourself and investing in your appearance is worth the effort, to create the best impression and convey a powerful message in the first glance itself-- “I’m in the game. I get it. Listen to me”.

Sounds great! Now how do you create this power dressing effect? Will it require occasional salon visit for Manicures, Pedicures, Facials, and $300 haircuts? Or are we talking about expensive Dior clothes, Louis Vuitton bags or $2,000 Jimmy Choo’s here? Well, powerful and successful women know what to buy, where and when to open their wallet.

My wise and brilliant friend, Branding Expert, JuliAnn Stitick, once told me, “To inspire potential clients to work with you, you must dress the part. They want to work with put-together, successful people. You must embody the women they need you to be.”

It’s not about breaking the bank with clothes that take up your entire salary. But sticking to certain fashion rules to bring out your best personality! Let's see how.

1. Dress for the Occasion

Noticed that powerful women rarely look unkempt at work? Take a look at your female boss or the women who are killing it in your field. That’s right: powerful women are wise enough to project themselves through fashion, and have the right outfits for the events they attend. Remember that dressing should be:  Half your audience and half your personal style. Fashion should express you – it’s true. But never ignore the audience and setting you are going to be in.

2. Body Awareness

It all begins with being aware of your body. When you operate in a heightened state of awareness, you tend to take better care of yourself. Grooming becomes a form of self-love and not a chore. You choose clothes and accessories which fits your body and creates an elegant look (regardless of the price or brand of the items you use). Also, powerful women like you, get regular haircuts, and their nails always look great. Bonus Tip: Accept and listen to your body. Work with it, not against it.

3. Elegant and Expert Accessorizing

Having the right jewelry can add pop to an otherwise simple attire. Changing out jewelry, shoes and bags helps you to double or triple your outfit options. Remember the occasion and accessorize. When wearing your casual jeans with a chic blazer, spice your outfit with a colorful bag and a pair of pink pumps. Just consider ones that can transform an outfit from out-of-date to current, or infuse a traditional look with some modern touch.

4. Invest in Quality Buys

Invest in pieces that will last you for years, and splurge on clothes that make your heart happy. There’s no need to  spend $100 on a tank top that looks the same as a $9 Target tank. Choose quality products must stand the test of time, like a great dress, perfect slacks, or fitted blazer. Anything that is elegant and long lasting is worth buying.

5. Create your own signature style

Michelle Obama has a distinctive style. So does Meghan Markle. And also Sheryl Sandberg. What’s yours? Having your own go-to-look helps you stand out and showcase your personal energy. The bonus part is -- It saves time and dressing up for any occasion becomes a breeze for you. Whether it's a distinctive color, en era-inspired look or statement jewelry, you can choose your own personal style. This predictable visual identity displays consistency and reliability which describes a Powerful Woman.

We no longer need to blend in to communicate confidence, but anyone with a love for fashion will tell you it can help boost the spirit to feel great in your clothes. Powerful women get to do—and wear—what they want.

Having these tips in mind can enhance confidence, especially for your personal or corporate photoshoot. We will help you style your session and guide you through the clothing selection process.

Let us help you see how beautiful you are. Book a free portrait consultation and we will guide you to bring out the Power Woman in You!

5 tips to not let your brand look unprofessional

In the modern times, having a good brand is no longer a luxury but a prerequisite for a successful business. It has become highly important. Making your brand look unprofessional or amateur is a nightmare no matter if you are a one person brand or an organization.

Poor branding makes your brand untrustworthy and easily forgettable. This is something that you want to avoid. Here are 5 tips you can follow to not let your brand look unprofessional or amateurish.

Poorly designed website:

If a website is not looking good right away, users will head to a different direction in their search. If the website is too cluttered, it will be difficult for the readers to continue on the page.

Go to the page and check if you are having any difficulty in going through the website. If your eyes don’t go to the certain spots you want it to, may be you need to redesign your website.

Having your website poorly designed or too cluttered makes your brand look like too amateur or unprofessional. This can be too bad for your reputation.

You also need to have enough white space in your pages or it will look like a mess.

Brand color is not appropriate.

Your brand color speaks louder than you’d imagine. Because colors play an important role in our subconscious mind.

Your brand color can repel visitors even before they read your copy. Because if your brand color doesn’t match with the brand message, it is going to create a disconnect.

You can learn more about color psychology and start to use the color that match well with what your message is about. Learn to use your head along with your heart.

Poor quality images.

Images can be an important aspect in making your brand look professional. Using stock photos can make your website feel generic. People connect with your images. If it looks generic or unprofessional, it can repel readers. So, having good photographs to match your personality and brand is important.

Simpson Portraits offers high quality professional business headshots which will make your brand look more authentic and more professional.

Outdated content

People visit websites to consume content. If your website is filled with irrelevant or outdated content, it will make visitors exit your website fast. Because it sends wrong messages about the company.

It creates a perception that you are not serious about your brand. It can make you look like a company that compromises with quality as you don’t take enough care in making your content up to date and relevant.

So always make sure to audit your content at least quarterly and update outdated content.

Tell a consistent brand story

Your customers are attracted to your brand story. A well told brand story can make your brand feel like a part of the customer’s life.

If your story doesn’t have consistency across your whole branding ecosystem, it will again make you look like an unprofessional. You must always take care to make your brand story consistent.

Brand Stories (A write up about clients whose branding images helped them in their business)

If you own a business, then you are the face of your brand. Whatever your business does, you need very specific headshots to communicate your brand to customers. There are hundreds or thousands of others like you. If you don’t show the world how you stand apart from the rest, then you will be like everyone else’s brand and people wouldn’t be compelled to do business with you.

That is why we at Simpson Portrait helps our customers to make their brands truly remarkable and standout from the rest of the crowd using custom tailored and personalized photographs. We have helped a lot of clients like Dalel to up their branding game by helping them to create incredible branding images with our personal branding photography sessions.

Dalel Snider is the owner of Los Angeles Floral Couture. She creates art using flowers. Her works for creating floral designs customized for each bride, business lobby etc, are truly remarkable and incredibly creative. She came to us to build a customized branding for her business.

She builds high-end custom couture flower creations, not Teleflora or FTD generic flower arrangements. But, her previous branding wasn’t not conveying the uniqueness and remarkable service she was offering.

When we approached Dalel’s case, we wanted to focus on fashion and put her at the center of her business brand. Because, unlike most florists who put flowers in the forefront, we wanted to give her brand an identity; her! We wanted to show how connected with the brand she is and how her business is driven by her unique approach with flowers.

When coming up with her look, we worked to create something that look like a Michael Kors ad, or Louis Vuitton spread in a magazine. These images were so good that her brand’s perception in the customers’ mind has highly improved and her image is tied to the brand and making it exclusive and setting her brand a class apart from the rest.

But it doesn’t stop with just portraits. Dalel worked with Stephanie for business strategy to shift her business into higher earnings without wearing herself down working so hard. Focusing on extraordinary arrangements, exclusivity, higher price points, and high levels of customer service instead of volume sales has really brought her business up to the next level.

We have helped countless business owners build great branding with our personal branding photography sessions. Contact us to come up with your own amazing personal branding which will help you stand out from the crowd.

How to Win Clients Over With Your LinkedIn Profile Picture

How to Win Clients Over With Your LinkedIn Profile Picture

A poorly chosen photograph is sufficient to push away potential clients and recruiters.  In today’s world, first impressions count, and looks do matter. That doesn’t mean that only a good-looking professional will be sought after – rather, we’re talking about how you present yourself.

LinkedIn is the most popular online professional networking platform, and it’s crucial that you show yourself in the best light. If you want to win over your clients, you need to appear professional, trustworthy, approachable and considerate. Here is how you can do this:

●  Hire a professional photographer who specializes in business headshots in La Verne; they will take a number of high-quality pictures from which you can select the best. Lighting, your expression, backgrounds, clarity – all this will be taken care of.  We’ve all seen it - profile pictures with the husband cropped out of the photo, or in a tuxedo at a wedding, or even a selfie. These are not professional and show that you do not care about how you present yourself in business. A bad picture or no picture at all can ensure that human resources will not be calling you in for an interview.

● Remember that LinkedIn crops their profile images in a circle. Choose an image that fits nicely in that circle.

● Choose a background that’s appropriate to your profession; your photographer will ensure that the background is muted or even blurred so that the attention is on you. Your head and shoulders should fill the frame – the background can be just a hint of the work you do, if at all; otherwise, your best bet is a plain backdrop.

● Smile: nobody likes a grumpy professional. It makes you look friendly and approachable – and that you care. People are more likely to trust you. Make sure your smile fits your profession. That great megawatt smile looks beautiful but might not be the right one for your legal or therapy practice.

●  Dress professionally and choose clothes that are appropriate for your profession. If you work in a casual environment, select outfits that are the dressy version of your casual office. Look us in the eye. Shots looking away might be a great choice for your website, but it doesn’t express confidence in a LinkedIn environment. You are presenting yourself to the business world, make sure we connect with you through eye contact.

● Make sure you’re well groomed – hair and face; this doesn’t mean you need to overdo it with your makeup, but make yourself presentable. Men should shave or trim their beard. People notice if you’ve let your facial hair go scruffy and unkempt.

●  The next time you get a new pair of glasses, get the anti-reflection coating. It makes a huge difference in pictures, whether that is on  your LinkedIn page or at the company holiday party. That glare will prevent us from seeing your eyes and connecting with you.

● Touch up the photo to remove flaws and look your best; yes, Photoshop is a good friend, but don’t overdo it. You still want to look like yourself.

Top 5 Benefits of Getting a Professional Headshot

Top 5 Benefits of Getting a Professional Headshot

We live in a world where we are bombarded by visuals; great visuals are important for corporate success – and even more critical for small business success. To have a dynamic presence as a professional of any kind, you need a professional headshot. Here are five amazing benefits of hiring a personal branding photographer in Los Angeles:

#1. It Gives you a Great Introduction

Most often, your headshot may be the first point of contact your potential customers have with your brand or business. A great headshot will go a long way in creating a good first impression. A headshot that represents you properly is essential; when you’re hunting for a job, a good picture of yourself will help create a positive image about you in the mind of the recruiter. A portrait can say a lot about your personality. By putting a professionally taken headshot that shows you in the best light, you will win half the battle.

#2. It helps in Personalization

People like to buy from other people, and not from companies. Human beings always like to connect with other human beings. When they see the face behind the company; when they have an identity to engage with, they are more likely to buy. A professional headshot helps to showcase you at your best, and lends a personal touch to your brand.

#3. Tell your Story

The clothes you wear, your expression, the lighting, and the background – all help to convey to your potential customers who you are, what you do, and even what your values are. It gives them a sense of familiarity with you. Your ideal clients will easily be able to identify and be attracted to your brand.

#4. Helps Establish Authority

A professional headshot helps to convey that you pay attention to detail, and you care about the little things. High-quality photography differentiates you and your competitors. People with unprofessional photos can actually end up losing clients. Create trust in the minds of potential customers, recruiters or employers by showing you are playing at a higher level.

#5. You can Make Things Happen

By getting professional headshots and uploading them on professional sites like LinkedIn, you are sending a clear message that you are up-to-date with current trends and care about putting your best foot forward. Updating your photo regularly shows you are active, and a go-getter.

How to Get Ready For a Professional Portrait

Comment

How to Get Ready For a Professional Portrait

We all need professional portraits, whether we are doctors, lawyers, engineers, consultants, managers, creatives, etc. The first thing to do is choose a photographer who takes great business headshots in Claremont. Check online reviews, ask for references, and enquire with colleagues and family. Once you’ve decided that, choose the location and the kind of shots you want.

Then you’ve got to prepare.

Clothes

Your dressing is a form of expression; what you wear reflects your personality. Dress neatly and professionally – and keep it simple.

●  Pick something you’re comfortable in and what suits you

● Bring 5+ outfits to your session. You will need a variety of looks so you can use them in  your marketing to different audiences, and to have different looks on your website and social media.

● Go for solid colors instead of prints, checks or stripes; if you must choose patterns, make sure they are simple and classic. Avoid small repeating patterns such as pinstripes because they can look like they are moving in a picture.

● Bring a light colored option, a dark option and a pop of color.

● Bring along a great pair of jeans and casual top so you can have casual images for your personal Facebook page.

● Make sure your clothes are ironed to perfection; remove every crease and wrinkle

● Bring along any foundation garments (strapless bra, Spanx, undershirt, etc) you might need for each outfit.

● Bring at least one pair of nice shoes.

● Don’t forget pants. What? Yes, it’s true. We have had clients who have forgotten their pants/skirts.

Hair

● If you can, go to a hairdresser so that your hair is perfect for the shoot. Touch up your color and get a trim.

● Don’t try out a whole new hairstyle before your shoot.  You want to love your hair and a whole new look can be risky.

● If you want it straightened, schedule an appointment prior to the shoot. You do not want all the time of your photoshoot taken up with hair styling.

Face/Makeup

We have a wonderful hair and makeup artist on staff, and she will talk to you about how you like your makeup, what colors you prefer, etc. It’s very important that your makeup feels right to you. If you will be doing your own makeup, here are some guidelines.

● Wear what looks and feels natural to you.

● Avoid shimmer as it can affect how light reflects off the skin.

●  Bring makeup, lip balm, and moisturizer with you to the shoot

● Never undergo extreme treatments like facial peels or tanning the previous day as it can irritate the skin

● We recommend against botox style treatments just prior to the shoot because they can affect the range of your facial expressions. If you are concerned about wrinkles, Photoshop can do wonders and you should discuss that with your photographer..

● Pluck eyebrows and upper lips and any excess facial hair at least 2 days prior

● Men should shave just before leaving for the shoot, and use aftershave to calm skin

Drink lots of water in the two weeks leading up to your shoot and make sure to get plenty of rest the night before. You will be looking fantastic for your photo shoot. Looking for a personal branding photographer in Arcadia? Just call us at 909-506-4546 now!

Why should you hire a professional photographer for your personal branding?

Why should you hire a professional photographer for your personal branding?

There is a lot more to you and your business than just a logo. It includes a host of intangible things – emotions, ideas, expectations and more – that evolve in the minds of your potential customers. You are the face of your business, and it’s crucial that you present yourself well, and connect emotionally with your clients, if you want to stand out from your competition. The wrong pictures will convey a negative image of your business – and that’s not going to help you.

● You’ve got to make a ‘Wow!’ impression at the first opportunity. In a world that is full of eye-catching imagery, you have to present personal images that convey who you are, what you do and how you do it. With consistent, high-quality imagery with the appropriate styling, you can tell your story efficiently and engagingly.

● Hiring a professional personal branding photographer in Los Angeles can help convey the message that you care about the little details.

● A great, stylish photograph of you can convey your brand values and offer a great first impression of your brand in seconds. This can significantly help to build trust even without meeting you face-to-face. Today’s customer wants to connect with a human being and does not want to interact with a faceless corporate organization. When you’re not afraid to show yourself and your vibrant personality, it builds their confidence and fosters trust.

● When done properly, personal branding images convey your uniqueness to your target audience. Potential customers may be able to gauge how you or your business is different from others in the industry. Appropriate imagery can give your customers an adequate reason to feel comfortable with you, and to care about your brand; ergo, personal branding images help you build your brand.

● It is said that a picture speaks a thousand words – and never has it been more relevant than now! People are more inclined to look at images rather than go through huge blocks of text. High-quality images can help you increase social media engagement, drive sales and increase revenues.

After having worked hard on building your business and all the work you have put in, you deserve to have people see you at your best!

8th Grade Graduation Portrait Photography

HEY PARENTS OF 8TH GRADERS! Graduating from the 8th grade is an amazing milestone for teens. I love photographing 8th graders because they have one foot in childhood and one foot adulthood. They are simultaneously children, teens and 30-year olds! Truth be told, it's a tricky age for parents, because their kids can look so grown up in pictures, and that can be hard to handle (especially for dads and daughters!). I specialize in age-appropriate posing, hair and makeup for the girls, and a fun experience for all.

Perfect Gift for Teen and Tween Girls

Tweens and teen girls are complex creatures. With one foot in childhood and one foot reaching towards adulthood, they can be changeable, childish, mature, and confused all within the space of a minute.

So what to get for your teen or tween that isn’t made by Apple or Samsung? What will satisfy this complicated girl?

Show your daughter or granddaughter or niece that she is beautiful and give her the experience of a lifetime. With a teen-focused beauty shoot at Simpson Portraits, your girl gets to be a model for the day with age-appropriate makeup, hair styling, guided posing, a 2-hour photo shoot with mutliple outfits, and photographs custom designed for her personality.

Looking at a photograph of yourself and feeling beautiful is powerful stuff. I say this for women of all ages, but particularly for teens, who are just starting to figure out who they are.

The Subtle Messages We Give that Crush Self-Esteem

I feel so strongly about empowering young women to feel confident and beautiful. Studies show that parents stop hiring professional photographers to photograph their families when the kids are between 11-17. They say, “Oh, we’ll wait until you get your braces off,” or “she’s in her awkward stage, we’ll wait for her senior portraits.” The message subtly given is that these girls aren’t pretty enough to be photographed.

Ages 11-17 are the Most Important for Photographing Girls

But this is the MOST important time for a girl to be photographed. It’s precisely between the ages of 11-17 that things go so horribly wrong for girls in terms of self esteem, body image, and confidence.

I am rolling out a program in January that will help teen girls feel confident and beautiful so they can make great choices for themselves in their lives. Stay tuned for details.

If you would like to help your teen feel beautiful a gift certificate for a custom photography session at Simpson Portraits is the perfect choice. Click here to purchase a gift certificate, or give us a call and we will be happy to walk you through the process. 626-335-1050

Tim Gunn on Fashion and the Average Sized Woman

Thank you, Tim Gunn for shining a light on the belittling gap in the fashion industry. Making a lot of money and making women all over the world feel beautiful isn’t enough for most fashion designers. They would rather design for the few women who are sized 2 than the 72% of us who wear a size 12 and above. And what is up with retailers not wanting our business?

I never use the term, “plus size,” either to describe myself or my clients. I am a woman and I wear clothes and I want beautiful clothes that make me feel confident. This is not too much to ask. I have money to spend, but few options to purchase. Happily, some people are waking up to our under-served market and looking at opportunities. Thank you Melissa McCarthey for jumping into this market. Who is next?

When I was a kid, my mom shopped at a New York boutique called, The Forgotten Woman. It’s a perfect, but depressing name. Unseen, forgotten, ignored, invisible. This is how many of us feel.  I say to hell with that!

A Ghostly Way to Photograph your Wedding Gown

Bridal Couture Portraits just got a whole lot Spooker!

I always thought it was a shame to trash a beautiful wedding gown for a Trash the Dress photoshoot, so here's a fun alternative - a Halloween ghostly beauty shoot that keeps your wedding dress intact.

We did hair and makeup here in the studio with the awesome Julie Buck and Maggie Cathey. Our model was Hannah Sulak and the flowers were provided by Los Angeles Floral Couture by Glendora Florist.

The theme was Ghost Bride. I wanted something ethereal and beautiful, but still spooky, so we looked to Disney's Haunted Mansion for inspiration. It looks challenging, but the fun part of this shoot was posing the model, then we had two dress assistants to FLING the tulle into the air.

What would you like to do for your own spooky shoot? Email us if you would like a ghostly bride shoot for yourself and we will design it just for you.

"My passion is helping people feel good about themselves and showing the world that they are beautiful as they are now.  There is no magic to what I do here, I simply see beautiful in everyone and bring that to life. My before and afters are here to show that my clients are just regular women who want to feel beautiful."- Stephanie Simpson
